June 27th – Foster The People with Mayer Hawthorne: Hope you got your tickets for this one because it is sold out! One day before my cursed birthday means I might venture out of the house for this one. Recently formed and straight out of Los Angeles, Foster The People have had wild success seemingly overnight with their dance pop-rock hits. Mayer Hawthorne rounds out the bill with a solid opening set.
July 5th – Ben Harper: With successful albums and performances since the 90′s, Ben Harper is sure to bring an outstanding set this summer! Known for his mix of blues, soul, reggae and rock, Harper has a diverse following around the globe. July 26th – Emmylou Harris & Her Red Dirt Boys with Steve Martin & Steep Canyon Strangers: Yes, you read that right! Emmylou and the banjo king himself, Steve Martin! I’m personally stoked on this show – beautiful bluegrass outside on the lawn with what is sure to be an entertaining and hilarious set by Steve Martin. Two classics, one amazing night! August 9th – Sigur Rós: This one devastates me a little. Let my tragedy teach us all a dear lesson – get your tickets immediately for these shows! My all-time favorite Icelandic artists are returning to our lovely little city for the first time in a couple years (who else caught Jonsi and his incredible video installation at the Roseland last time?) and will be treating us all to music off their new album. Every time I’ve seen this group perform, it’s been life-changing. Mixing visual and tactile elements along with their cinematic, emotional music, Sigur Rós are artists through and through. This one is sold out, but those of you who got tickets are going to have an amazing time!
August 17th - Norah Jones: Who doesn’t love this little lady? Equally well known for her sultry jazz music and indie film acting, Norah Jones has really branched out in her career to experiment with everything from jazz to folk to rock. August 25th and 26th – The Avett Brothers: Lovely folk-rockers from North Carolina, The Avett Brothers have garnered success quickly over the past couple years through some relentless touring and that epic performance at the Grammy’s alongside Mumford and Sons and Bob Dylan. Another evening of really talented musicians performing at the Edgefield – and you’ve got two nights to choose from!
