Negură Bunget has had an illustrious career since their formation in the mid-90s.
In 2003, the band’s concept album ‘N Crugu Bradului was released through code666 Records and garnered positive feedback in worldwide markets. The band has performed at famous metal festivals like Germany’s Wacken Open Air and Rock Mania. Most recently, Negură Bunget performed in this year’s Paganfest throughout Europe.
The Timișoara, Romania-based black metal band draws inspiration from the legends of Transylvania myth and folklore. The band’s name means “a black fog coming from a deep, dark, dense forest.” Their music emphasizes a connection with nature and “the principle of four,” the connection of the four seasons, the four winds, the four elements, the four phases of the moon, and the four moments of the day. The band’s music is atmospheric, progressive, and unconventional, as demonstrated in the songs “Dacia hiperboreana” and “Cunoasterea tacuta.”
Founding member and drummer Negru has been touring with a line-up of new members who joined the band between 2009 and 2011 after two other founding members left the band over irreconcilable differences. The band currently has six members, with a lead vocalist, guitarist, rhythm guitarist/backup vocalist, bassist, keyboardist, and drummer. The black metal sextet combines modern instruments with more traditional ones like panpipes and wooden blocks to create their ethereal and other-worldly soundscapes.
See Negură Bunget headline their first shows in the Pacific Northwest at El Corazon on Sunday, May 6th, and at the Hawthorne Theatre on Monday, May 7th. Tickets are on sale now.
