Yes, beard metal is a real thing. Just look at Valient Thorr’s beards! It is undeniable that the force of beard power is strong with these ones.
Vocalist Valient Himself leads the crew of his kinsmen musicians, guitarist Eidan Thorr, bassist Dr. Professor Nitewolf Strangees, guitarist Sadat Thorr, and drummer Lucian Thorr. Valient Thorr formed in the year 2000 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Valient Thorr‘s music sounds as powerful and epic as the hammer of Thor. The Norse god of lightning, thunder, storms, and oak trees would probably quite enjoy Valient Thorr’s Viking-esque samplings of hard rock and stoner metal.
The metal band’s most recent album, Stranger, was released in 2010. Their fifth album features epic headbangers like “Sleeper Awakes” and “Double Crossed,” with accompanying brutal music videos to boot. Valient Thorr enjoy their rock dirty and mean, like the beards they sport. Their music has played a perfect soundtrack to many video games, including “Need for Speed: Carbon” and “Skate.”
But it’s not all brutality with this band. Messages of positivity and the power of rock to change the world are found throughout the band’s lyrics, and frontman Valient Himself spreads “positive vibrations.” In May 2008, Valient Himself donated a kidney to his diabetic Earth father, and three weeks after the kidney transplant operation, the band returned to Europe for a slew of shows and festivals.
Valient Thorr has toured with the likes of Joan Jett and the Black Hearts, Eagles of Death Metal, Mastodon, Motörhead, Clutch, Fu Manchu, and Portland rockers Red Fang. For more than a decade, Valient Thorr has toured throughout the world, spread its message of positivity, and grown its legion of Thorriors.
Seattle Thorriors, experience the power of beard metal on Saturday, June 30th at El Corazon. San Diego metal band Holy Grail, Atlanta rockers Royal Thunder, North Carolinians The Kickass, and Seattle sludge metalers Witchburn will open the all-ages show. Tickets are on sale now!
