Reggae Heats Up the Pacific Northwest This Summer

Exciting musical acts Aer, Moosh and Twist: OCD, Katchafire, and The Mike Pinto Band bring reggae and hip hop to the Pacific Northwest this summer

Reggae fans, there are three hot shows in the Pacific Northwest this summer that you can’t afford to miss.

Reggae band Aer consists of duo David von Mering and Carter Schultz of Wayland, Massachusetts. Their EP What You Need made it to number 1 album on the iTunes hip hop charts. The duo performed at this year’s Bamboozle festival in New Jersey. Aer is touring with Moosh and Twist of the hip hop/rap duo OCD on a 33-city tour this summer. Moosh and Twist, teenagers and recent high school grads from Philadelphia, have high ambitions for the music industry. Their newest song “Turn It Up” was released last month, and their mixtape is set to be released this summer. Aer and Moosh and Twist: OCD will perform on Tuesday, June 26th, at the Hawthorne Theatre.

New Zealand reggae/ska band Katchafire originally formed in 1997 as a Bob Marley tribute band. Their band name refers to the Bob Marley and the Wailers album of the same name. Later on in Katchafire’s career, they began writing their own music. Their fourth album, On the Road Again, was released in 2010 (check out the colorful animated music video for the title track). Katchafire’s tour in the U.S. this summer will be only their second tour in the states. Experience Katchafire on Friday, July 6th at the Hawthorne Theatre.

The Mike Pinto Band returns to the Pacific Northwest this summer after releasing the 6-track EP The West is Still Wild last year. Vocalist,  lyricist, and songwriter Mike Pinto’s distinct style blends ska, reggae, vintage rock, classic surf, and roots. Pinto will be joined by bassist Matt Brein, drummer Todd Elrod, and a cast of other musicians on his latest tour. See The Mike Pinto Band on Thursday, July 19th at the Hawthorne Theatre and Friday, July 20th at El Corazon.

Experience reggae this summer in the Pacific Northwest!
